She Speaks 2016
Next week, I will pack my bags and set off for the beautiful state of North Carolina. There I will meet with a potential publisher and literary agent. To say I’m excited is a giant understatement.
I’ve spent a year preparing for this moment. A year of writing and finalizing a book proposal (not to mention writing much of the book itself). A year of researching ways to grow my platform. Its been a year of successes and also a few flops along the way. A year, 365 days to prepare for these meetings.
Preparedness isn’t one of my strong suits. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather show up and wing it. Maybe this is a trait I inherited from my father. I remember road trips, we’d be about an hour from home and then he’d check for directions. As a child, this seemed normal to me. I showed up to tests, presentations, and sometimes life with little preparation. I literally watched a video on giving birth the morning I went into labor.
No, I can’t say preparation is one of my strong suites.
I knew for this moment the likelihood of success would be dependent on the level of my preparation.
Big moments require big preparation.
Benjamin Franklin plainly said, “by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
Granted, I can’t plan for everything. I often worry and try to control things that are outside of my control, but neglect to take care of what is within my control. (Please tell me I’m not the only one…)
I’m excited at the opportunity to share my ideas, passions, and the things that make my heart sing.
I continue to hold Vision Casting in open hands. I remember clearly the day Vision Casting was laid on my heart, more than 4 years ago today. Since that time its like the book has grown a heart beat and continues to take shape, much like a baby growing in utero.
Thank you all for your support and encouragement. I hope you don’t get tired of hearing it because I’m not likely to stop saying it. 🙂
I am looking forward to posting about it when I get back. In the mean time, I’m sure to post lots of pics on Instagram (a shameless plug to start following me @MelissaCclark00).
Blessings to you,
